Auditions for Sweet 16

CALLING ALL:

Flappers, Dames, Dolls, Starlets, Harlots, Skirts, Flirts
AND Well-Kept High-Society Broads! Try Out To Be Part
of San Francisco’s Newest All-Female Vintage Dance Troupe!

WHEN & WHERE

Auditions will take place on both February 8th and 9th from 2 to 5pm. It is critical that all members hoping to join are there for both days. The audition will take place at the Metronome Ballroom (Mezzanine Level), located at 1830 17th St, San Francisco.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Auditions will run in two parts. On Saturday (2/8) members will gather to hear about team goals, expectation and scope. Also, we will learn choreography for a short slow and fast routine. All class material will be made available online directly after the audition. We will learn in a group setting, with plenty of time for questions, refinement, technique, and overall creative expression.

On Sunday (2/9) we will review the two short pieces and then perform both pieces in small groups (3 to 4, depending on the size).

WHAT TO BRING

On Saturday, wear whatever makes you comfortable. Its a learning day, and we’ll be focused on getting the material down. Please bring both flats and heels.

On Sunday, its showtime! Please come in make-up, hair, and a outfit that makes you feel like performing for an audience. It is expected that dancers will perform the fast routine in flats and the slow routine in heels, so please bring both.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR

The folks we are interested in bringing to the Sweet Sixteen must show a combination of the following talents:

* Dance ability and coordination
* Capacity to learn choreography
* Performance capacity
* Positive attitude
* Ability and interest to work in a team setting
* 2 hours a week available for practice in San Francisco
* 2 hours a week available for learning or administrative tasks

Now if you’re thinking to yourself, “well I’m not good at such-and-such and so-and-so and who’s-it-what-not”, fear not. Strength in one or two areas often allows us to see your potential to learn, grow and contribute to the group.

I’M WORRIED I WON’T GET IN…

Even for folks who are not able to commit the time, or are worried that their dance ability precludes them from being on a performance team, I’d like to suggest that all gals interested in being on the troupe come for two reasons.

1. Gather helpful feedback.
For all those who ask, the admin committee will provide feedback for all members who showed up to audition on Saturday and Sunday

2. Learn more about the team
If you’re interested in being on this team — but perhaps can’t commit the time right now, come to the audition so you know what its about. You’ll also have the leg up on new auditioners next time around.

I’D LOVE TO MAKE IT, BUT I’M BUSY THAT WEEKEND

For those especially interested in being part of the Sweet 16 who cannot make part or all of the audition — a separate audition time will be made. Please contact us through the contact form as quickly as possible to solidify those arrangements.
